WORKSHOP ABOUT GUERRILLA ART – PERFORMATIVE POLITICAL ACTIONS IN CONTEMPORARY ART

The workshop took place on 15 November, from 11 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., and on 16 November, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Speakers: Pietro Nocita and PhoebeZeitgeistTeatro (Francesca Maria Consonni, Antonio Caronio, and Giuseppe Isgrò).
After an introduction to the theories and a historical-critical digression (from early 20th century art-performance movements to Jammer culture), the participants created a group-project about guerrilla art; this was linked to the themes of cultural subversion and utilized visual and performative languages that had been studied in depth in the workshop.
The workshop was aimed at young visual artists, curators, performers, actors, creators, and students of art theory and criticism.
Aims
During the workshop the participants were encouraged to take on specific roles in the group project; besides the more obviously creative roles, various participants in the group followed up aspects of curatorship, video and photographical documentation, critical ideas about experimental themes and actions.
The workshop’s aim was to develop a plan for an art performance and present it to the group, a performance characterized by a mixture of different languages and expressive techniques: visual, performative, video-photographic, installations, documentation.
