Dirty Corner is the title of an exceptional exhibition in Milan  with Anish Kapoor, universally recognized as one of the most significant contemporary artists.

From 31 May, two different exhibition venues – the Rotonda di via Besana (31 may to 9 october 2011) and the Fabbrica del Vapore (31 may 2011 to 31 jannuary 2012) – will be concurrently hosting two important shows curated by Gianni Mercurio and Demetrio Paparoni. This important initiative is among the most eagerly anticipated art events in Italy. It is being promoted and produced by the City of Milan’s departments for culture, and for sport and free time, together with the Madeinart society for art production.
The show in the Fabbrica del Vapore consists of the monumental site-specific installation Dirty Corner, created specially for this occasion.

Fabbrica del Vapore
Dirty Corner site specific installation
The show ended in January 31th 2012

The site-specific installation Dirty Corner will fully occupy the “Cathedral” of the Fabbrica del Vapore. This installation – realized with the backing of the Galleria Continua, the Lisson Gallery, and the Galleria Massimo Minini – consists of a huge steel volume 60 metres long and 8 metres high which the visitors can enter. The entrance is goblet-shaped; the interior and exterior surface is circular and has only a minimum contact with the ground. The work will be progressively covered with some 160 cubic metres of soil.

Rotonda della Besana – Recent works
The show ended in october 9th 2011

The Rotonda di Via Besana, instead, will host a wide-ranging group of large works created over the past ten years; for the first time in Italy it will be possible to see works that have revolutionized our way of understanding sculpture. Mainly made from metal or wax – the latter always characteristically coloured “Kapoor red” – these sculptures are so closely integrated with the space as to become a part of it. As the curators have said, “Kapoor has always acted within a metaphysical conception which can be seen in the way the sculptures become an integral part of the space and generate silence around themselves”.

The show at Rotonda della Besana ended in october 9th 2011
